Counselor Spotlight: Ms. McGeeney

Ms. McGeeney is a new addition to our counseling department this year! I asked her a couple questions about herself so we can get to know her a little better.
Her early years were full of lots of fun by being the oldest out of three with a younger sister Molly, who recently moved to Hawaii, and a younger brother Connor, who graduated from college last spring. Ms McGeeney has lived in Cincinnati since she was 4 years old and attended St. Columban grade school and Mount Notre Dame for high school (not a Bulldog, but we’ll accept a Cougar). She then later attended Ohio State and Xavier University for college.
I asked Ms. McGeeney some questions about being a school counselor:
Why did you decide to become a counselor? What is your favorite thing about being a counselor?
I felt so much pressure to know exactly “what I wanted to do when I grew up” and changed my mind A LOT! In my first job after college, I worked with AMAZING school counselors who inspired me to pursue my Master’s in School Counseling. I am so grateful for them because it led me to a career I absolutely love! Working with students is my favorite part of the day and I am especially passionate about the college process!
What do you love about SUA?
I love the faculty and staff that I have the privilege of working with and the students who continuously amaze me with their poise and dedication.
What are some hobbies you like to do when you are not working?
I teach barre and yoga classes at Embra and the Neighborhood Barre. I also love to cook! [If you ever are looking to get a work out, check out her classes!]
Ms. McGeeney also has some exciting news: “I just got engaged in June!” So congratulations and we are so happy you are here at SUA! Make sure you introduce yourself in the hallway so she feels a part of the welcoming community that is SUA!
