Mary’s Declassified Spring Sports Survival Guide

As I’m sure most of you know, SUA’s spring sports are almost at tournament time, so I thought it would be good to let you all know how our teams are doing so far this season.

Varsity lacrosse:

  • 4-8 (wins-losses)

  • 24 girls on the team + 1 manager

  • 12 seniors, 8 juniors, 3 sophomores, and 1 freshman

  • Won 1 GGCL game out of 6 so far

  • What to expect next year - a strong team as the current JV sophomores level up to Varsity

JV lacrosse:

  • 9-2 (wins-losses)

  • 23 girls on the team

  • 6 freshmen, 17 sophomores

  • Undefeated in GGCL’s

  • What to expect next year - also a solid team as the current freshmen anchor JV

Lacrosse overall:

  • The goal is to make it to the second round of the state tournament

  • Strengths are that the girls make a great team

  • Weaknesses are that the girls are a second-half team, meaning they don’t come out full force in the first half

  • Things to note about GGCL’s:

  • One of our girls has the most saves

  • One of our girls has caused the 3rd most turnovers

  • One of our girls has won the 4th most draw controls

Varsity softball:

  • Only varsity girls, there’s no JV team

  • 1-11 (wins-losses)

  • 13 girls

  • 3 seniors, 2 juniors, 1 sophomore, 7 freshmen

  • No high hopes for GGCL or state tournaments

  • Strengths: good hitters

  • Weaknesses: fundamentals and mindset

  • What to expect: a new pitcher, a solid team in 3 years once the current freshmen are seniors

  • Things to consider: this team is a mostly freshman team playing at a varsity level and we have already seen a drastic improvement in our freshmen.

Track and field:

  • Track competes as one team

  • Meets are won by whoever scores the most points. Points are decided by how an athlete places in their event (1st place is 10pts, 2nd is 8pts, etc). The top 8 girls get points.

  • There are about 100 girls on the team - about 35 sprinters and about 65 distance girls

  • Strengths: Girls are a great team and very supportive

  • Weaknesses:

  • What to expect:

  • Things to note about GGCL’s:

  • 2 SUA girls are in the top 10 for the 100m dash

  • 3 SUA girls are in the top 10 for the 200m dash

  • 4 SUA girls are in the top 10 for the 800m run

  • One girl is in the top 5

  • 6 SUA girls are in the top 10 for the 1600m run

  • We take the top 3 spots

  • 6 SUA girls are in the top 10 for the 3200m run

  • We take the top 4 spots

  • 4 SUA girls are in the top 10 spots for 100m hurdles

  • 4 SUA girls are in the top 10 spots for 300m hurdles
