Mr. Maliborski: From Principal to Teacher & Athletic Director

For almost 9 years, Mr. Maliborski has been a staple of the Saint Ursula Academy community. Whether it be a simple greeting in the hallways, an encouraging face at sporting events, or even as a helpful resource in the math department, Mr. Maliborski’s face is recognized by almost anyone at SUA. Despite being a constant in the crazy lives of Saint Ursula students, Mr. Maliborski’s role at SUA has drastically changed just over the last 2 years. Last year, Mr. Maliborski resigned as Saint Ursula’s principal to become a math teacher and the Athletic Director.
Mr. Maliborski has always had a passion for teaching as well as athletics, and when asked why he decided to switch roles, he said, “I always wanted to be a teacher, specifically a math teacher. Being principal was an awesome job but I started to miss teaching, and I couldn’t be principal and a teacher. When Mr. Sipes (the previous Athletic Director) resigned, I saw my opportunity to teach and pursue my passion for athletics, and I took it”.
Mr. Maliborski believes that this change has been a really good experience for him. “It’s been really rewarding to connect with the students in a different way. I think I’ve become closer with them now because I see them in a different environment,” he says of his new job. This is also what he cites as his favorite part about his current roles, as he explains, “I have always loved Saint Ursula and this community, and now I feel like I am even more involved and in tune with the girls here.”
One might think that transitioning from principal to teacher and Athletic Director would be a difficult adjustment but Mr. Maliborski says that “from the teaching point of view, it has been very easy because I did it before I became principal but becoming Athletic was a little more challenging because I didn’t have a lot of experience. My first year was mostly just getting myself oriented and figuring everything out.”
As to his future at Saint Ursula or any other aspirations, Mr. Maliborski says, “I have no clue what I want to do next. Maybe there is no next. I’m very happy where I am right now.”
Regardless of what role he plays at Saint Ursula, Mr. Maliborski’s passion and dedication shine through and make him a popular member of this school’s staff.
