Spring Sports Overview
With the fresh air and sunny days of spring comes the opening of SUA spring athletic programs: lacrosse, softball, and track.
The lacrosse program consists of 42 players this year -- 19 on varsity and 23 on JV. Todd Graham continues to head varsity, and Ms. Griffiths joins the coaching staff for JV. The varsity team welcomes one freshman, Maggie Tegtmeyer. Captains are Hayes Burk ‘19, Georgia Croci ‘19, and Kaitlynn Hilsinger ‘20. The team especially hopes to defeat rival schools Ursuline Academy and Mount Notre Dame, and looks forward to a trip to Columbus later this season.

Softball players enjoy new uniforms this year, which they helped to design. Coach Donald Amrein is looking forward to the impact of the team’s four new freshman players: Ellie Bender, Madeline Gillock, Karlee Hissett, and Rachel Weidner. Mr. Getgey has also stepped in to help coach this year. Captain Lindsey Weber ‘20 is excited for the upcoming season.
The track team hopes to continue making strides as they transition from the winter indoor season. Junior Caroline Hemmer broke the high jump record earlier this year, increasing the momentum the team carries into the spring. They continue to be headed by iconic coach Dan Bird, and the captains are: Grace Sheve ‘21, Molly Mulvaney ‘20, Megan Grieve ‘19, Rachel White ‘19, and Emma Foster ‘19.
