Politics in America have taken a new turn. On January 20, 2017, Donald J. Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States. Supporting him on this day was his wife, Melania Trump. This was a very important day in her world as well, she began her new role as a public figure and an important voice in the world’s politics.

Melania Trump was born on April 26, 1970 in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. She became a model at age sixteen at an agency in Milan, Italy and later dropped out of the University of Ljubljana so that she could continue her modeling career.

She met her husband, Donald Trump, at a New York fashion party in 1998. The pair were engaged in 2004, and they married in a private Palm Beach ceremony. In 2006, Melania became an official US citizen, and she gave birth to the couple’s only child, Barron Trump.

However, Melania Trump is no stranger to controversy. When her husband began campaigning for president in 2016, she was forced into the spotlight. Some of the photos from her modeling days came up, and they became a cause for controversy, especially because some of them were considered “sexual and racy.” Also, during her speech at the Republican National Convention, the beginning of her speech was almost verbatim to Michelle Obama’s speech in 2008. The writer of the speech eventually took the blame for the unfortunate plagiarism incident.

Melania has become the first foreign born first lady since Louisa Adams, John Quincy Adams’ wife. This raises eyebrows due to her husband’s strict crackdown on immigration and border control.

Donald Trump has also come under fire for leaving Melania behind at the steps of the White House on inauguration day. Also, Trump refuses to show Melania any kind of affection when they are out in public because according to body language experts, it makes him seem more “powerful and manly.”

Melania Trump is a brand new face in American politics, alongside her husband. It will be exciting to see what she does in her position during the course of the next four years.
